We're pleased to share that extended reality (XR) hardware startup Massless has raised $2 million to accelerate the development of their design tool, the Massless Pen. In 2015, Massless co-founder Dr Jack Cohen completed our Enterprise Fellowship programme, which provides 12 months of training and grant funding to help engineering entrepreneurs bring their innovation to market. For more information on this recent investment round and the Massless Pen see below:
Massless, a San Francisco and London based startup developing the most intuitive, precise and flexible input tools for the world’s greatest 3D designers and engineers received a $2 million Seed funding round led by Founders Fund Pathfinder, with participation from Entrepreneur First, Vivi Nevo, Shrug Capital and Wendy Tan-White.
In enterprise design and engineering, there’s a major gap between the desire to use XR (VR / AR / MR) for sketching, modeling, visualization and review – and what is possible. Today the XR hardware tools are not suitable for daily, production level use, so design teams are attempting to use consumer grade input devices for enterprise applications. It’s a frustrating and limiting experience. Massless has developed an intuitive, precise, flexible input device that helps design and engineering professionals to rapidly adopt XR for a much better production experience. The Massless Pen packs significant capability into an incredible form factor which enables designers and engineers inside or outside of XR to increase productivity and creativity.
“The end-to-end enterprise design process is going through a significant period of transition and rapid growth. Enabling technologies are coming together to deliver the XR promise of reduced design cycles, increased productivity and improved creativity. This investment will accelerate our development to become a driving force in this ecosystem. We’re excited about the opportunities that our tools will create for professionals across all industries where design and engineering is a competitive differentiator, including media, entertainment, civil engineering and automotive,” said Dr. Jack A. Cohen, CEO & Co-founder of Massless.
“Massless has recruited exceptional talent, including industry experts, to execute on a very ambitious vision. The team understands how to combine hardware, software and human-enhancing UX to create an intuitive and powerful XR tool for design and engineering professionals,” said Cyan Banister, Partner at Founders Fund.
“We are trailing the Massless Pen with some of the world’s largest companies across our different target industries. The initial response from the trials and hands-on demos has been incredible – especially from designers and engineers who have high expectations for a tool they rely on every day. We’re really excited about the Massless Pen and the other products in our roadmap, they are all part of our vision to build tools that make interacting with the digital workplace more human, intuitive, fluid and limitless. We want to help unlock creativity and problem-solving in the workplace.” added Cohen
Massless is using this investment to develop a world-class team of hardware and software engineers to complete the Pen and to secure an initial group of industry-leading customers using the Pen in production.
