Role Specification:

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Purchasing Manager, with proven experience of developing and managing a robust supply base under strict, progressive and scalable Quality, Cost, Delivery and Reactiveness (Q.C.D.R) measures.

We’re looking for a passionate individual who will contribute to our growth and success. Key responsibilities:

  • Developing and deploying a supply base up-scaling strategy.
  • Implementing mechanisms to achieve Q.C.D.R.
  • Managing and reducing year-on-year costs whilst retaining supplier commitment.
  • Creation and implementation of ‘terms of purchase’, supplier agreements and collaboration agreements.
  • Managing international forwarding/shipping orders in line with INCOterms and associated commercial terms.
  • Utilising vendor challenges on Q.C.D.R, where appropriate.
  • Implementing critical path mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure departmental spend works within DDMRP and cash flow conditions.
  • Managing work queue conditions using an ERP system.
  • Managing PO/stock cover/levels within ERP from requisition through to customer delivery (goods out).
  • Managing FRI/FRP/RFQ process.
  • Leading and managing stock taking activities on site and of remote consignment stock.
  • Leading, developing and managing the Materials Controller.
  • Any other duties as required that supports the growth of Open Bionics.

A successful first six months at Open Bionics would include:

  • Formal introduction and deployment of supplier performance audits
  • Achieving > 95% Right first time / OTD adherence
  • Developed and implemented critical supply path mitigation strategy and tools
  • Implementation of cost down activities in alignment with forecasted spend (buying power)
  • Built strong working relationship with Production Manager
  • To balance insourcing and outsourcing capacity load/restraints
  • To enable accurate and achievable production fulfilment forecast
  • Implementation and adherence to 'just-in-time' material supply practices

Person Scorecard:


  • Significant amount of experience working within the manufacturing sector in a Supply and Purchasing role.
  • Able to create supply and purchasing visions and strategies that are aligned to the company business plan.
  • Able to cope under pressure and seek resolution when problems with suppliers arise.
  • Understanding of quality standards relevant to engineering requirements (e.g. tolerance, visual, gauge R&R)
  • Proven ability to handle and switch between different areas of focus and set own priorities based on business needs.
  • Experience of supplier selection and performance auditing or lead auditor status / LRQA accreditation.


  • Experience of using NetSuite or an alternative ERP system.
  • Production/Manufacturing experience.
