Enterprise Hub welcomes its latest entrepreneurial engineers

Enterprise Fellowships

The Royal Academy of Engineering has today welcomed 12 new engineering entrepreneurs into its Enterprise Hub – providing funding and expertise to help them turn their innovations into successful products as part of growing businesses.

The new Enterprise Fellows includes recent graduates and post-doctoral researchers from across the UK who are developing technology ranging from non-invasive heart monitors to hydrogen batteries for clean, off-grid electricity. The Enterprise Fellowships provide a comprehensive support package which includes funding to cover engineers’ salaries, equipment and travel as they develop their products and attract investment to grow their start-ups.

As members of the Enterprise Hub, the Enterprise Fellows will each be matched to a dedicated mentor – a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, with years of engineering and business experience, who can provide expertise on building a successful commercial business from their innovative product. Hub Members also gain access to dedicated training and networking events hosted by the Academy, providing the opportunity to meet with collaborators and investors.

The 2017 Enterprise Fellows are the fourth cohort of engineers to receive the support the Enterprise Hub since it was established in 2013, and the first to make full use of the Academy’s new Taylor Centre – a dedicated home for the Hub with state-of-the-art meeting and networking facilities for Members to meet, train, and share ideas. The new Hub Members will follow in the footsteps of alumni who, between them, have established 45 start-up companies, generated 150 jobs and raised over £30 million in follow-on funding.

We’ve heard time and time again that the support of an experienced mentor can make all the difference to an entrepreneur’s journey and so, with the guidance of the Academy’s Fellows, I’m confident we’ll see great things from these new Enterprise Fellows in the years to come. Being a Member of the Enterprise Hub is a privilege reserved for the very best - I congratulate the new Members on their achievement and welcome them all to our Enterprise Hub community.”
