The rapid growth of quantum computing development and the parallel threats of sophisticated new artificial intelligence and mathematics mean that the encryption that is the bedrock of cybersecurity will be ineffective in the future. Quantum key distribution (QKD) addresses this by measuring information encoded on single particles of light, creating encryption keys that are unknowable to any eavesdropper employing any equipment or techniques conceivable within the laws of physics.
KETS Quantum Security (KETS) designs and manufactures chip-based quantum secure communications solutions using this approach. Through pioneering use of photonic integrated circuits KETS is developing and deploying systems that integrate with today’s telecoms infrastructure to provide transformational security and resilience against emerging cyber threats.
Dr Robert Starkwood is a member of KETS’ senior leadership team, with a critical engineering role working directly with customers and a leadership role in the Engineering team. His aim through the Shott Scale Up Accelerator is to develop skills in two areas. Firstly, to better translate customer interactions into effective business and product strategy. Secondly, to grow his technical leadership skills to lead cross-functional teams more effectively.
He notes that “by completing a management course from a leading academic institution I can access world-class educational content. By combining this with the mentoring and coaching available through the Shott Scale Up Accelerator I can embed that learning by applying it to real situations and taking opportunities to reflect and be held accountable for my own growth and development.”
KETS are currently focussing on delivering the next generation of our QKD product, designed with customer requirements in mind to be more secure, easier to produce, and easier to integrate and operate with existing network infrastructure. During the next year, Robert will be working closely with key customers as they use the first of these products and provide insights that allow KETS to remove specific remaining barriers that will unlock larger scale sales and deployments.
KETS plan to remain focussed on three main markets over the next six to twelve months: Telecommunication companies, datacentres, and government and defence. This continues their strategy of partnering and growing with customers capable of major scale-up.
