As we place ever increasing demands on our electricity grid through economic changes such as AI, electrification and net zero generation the limitations of our power systems are becoming apparent. We continue to use the same basic technology as a hundred years ago, yet our progress demands flexible, resilient, smart grids that can manage complex power flows in real time. IONATE have developed their Hybrid Intelligent Transformers (HITs) to stabilise and condition power flows in the most efficient, reliable, elegant way. Additionally, each HIT can act as a real-time control node, a level that has not previously be possible. This allows IONATE’s AI-enabled software to coordinate them create smart, decentralised grids that optimise themselves in real time.
Luca Mezossy-Dona is IONATE’s Chief Growth Officer, a role merging business development and marketing. She is responsible for strategic ecosystem building to fuel business growth – including forging commercial partnerships, acquiring customers and investors and aligning with key industry organisations and recognises that the Shott Scale Up Accelerator is well-positioned to help with this. She reflects that, “I measure my impact both in quality of partnerships, revenue and more broadly credibility and reputation.” She plans to use the opportunities in the Shott Scale Up Accelerator to support her in this.
IONATE have recently closed their Series A that will take their technology from pilots to early commercial scaling. Their next target milestones include international projects and scalable revenues within a year, an area Luca feels personally responsible for.
They feel their timing is just right: they see unprecedented market opportunity with fast-growing segments such as data centres; and their technology has matured just at the right time. Luca says, “This is no longer an opportunity problem; it is an exercise in execution.” She expects IONATE to generate meaningful revenues within the next 12-18 months through their licencing model, which will fundamentally change the kind of business they are.
