Brain implant surgeries to treat aneurysms and prevent strokes are high-risk procedures. Current technologies mean implants are fitted with much guesswork, resulting in complications that the surgeries aimed to prevent. Oxford Heartbeat’s PreSize® Neurovascular AI-powered software helps doctors best prepare for these high-risk procedures.
PreSize allows surgeons to import routine patient scans into it, generating best-fit implants into reconstructed virtual blood vessel models with high precision. Surgeons can, in real time, explore different implant sizes, makes, and positions in a safe, virtual setting, adjusting before surgery. This helps best-fit implants to be selected first time around, reducing complications, and improving patient outcomes.
Katia Mandaltsi is Oxford Heartbeat’s Head of Strategy and Clinical Partnerships, working directly with the CEO to shape the company’s business strategy. She is particularly focused on strategic collaborations, growth, and marketing.
She identifies that the one-to-one leadership coaching, supported by the Shott Scale Up Accelerator, will help her address key areas she wants to develop, such as negotiating and communication.
Reflecting on her development, Katia says that: “As our internal team is growing, it is important to manage it effectively. I wish to establish a strong caring culture while setting clear goals and inspiring accountability. Access to Culture+ would help, especially for my people management and team culture goals.”
In the next 12 months Oxford Heartbeat will be closing a major strategic agreement; their landmark clinical impact trial is expected to finish, with results to be announced; and FDA clearance is also expected. These represent incredibly important yet challenging company goals and personal growth goals for Katia in the next year.
The Royal Academy of Engineering has previously supported Oxford Heartbeat at several points, including an Enterprise Fellowship and the Explore programme for the CEO and founder of company, as well as having long-standing funding support from Innovate UK.
