SQCDP is a visual management tool used by manufacturing companies to measure performance on the shop floor. The acronym stands for Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People. These common and recommended indicators are usually logged on paperwork, collected, sorted, keyed into spreadsheets as data entry and then, finally, interpreted.
Stephen Mitchell has worked as a maintenance and facilities manager for several high profile companies. He noticed that there were common problems with the system such as more time was spent on collecting the data than interpreting it, and that collecting information manually made factory teams less efficient. Stephen developed SQCDP.co.uk to digitise manufacturing processes and help factory teams connect more effectively.
Stephen has built an app for factory workers to perform data entry, and a website where the business can interpret the live data and better analyse historical performance. His system has been tested and revised, with several customers now using it during trials.
Stephen joined the Regional Talent Engines programme in 2023. He says “The Royal Academy of Engineering is helping me form a vision for the company and turn that into a plan that I can work through. The programme is also connecting me to SMEs that can help us in terms of pricing, role-modelling and making decisions.”
Early trials have demonstrated that the software solves a problem that manufacturers are willing to pay for. Stephen is now looking to create a small team that will develop the business. Revenue from early users will enable investment so that Stephen’s company can scale up, grow and make an impact with his management software.
