In modern biotechnology, the artificial gene construct, which is the basic building block, uses a design dating back to the 1970s. ExpressionEdits have redesigned artificial genes from first principles allowing the addition of the missing part of the DNA code. Their proprietary method creates artificial genes that better resemble genes in nature, leading to a multifold improvement in production.
Dr Kärt Tomberg is the founder and CEO and recognises the challenge of being an academic transitioning into the entrepreneurial landscape. She says of ExpressionEdit: “The first year and a half of company building was very demanding and often reactive to solving immediate problems. Now that we have built most of the processes, there is a bit more bandwidth to invest in personal growth and through that in a better leadership for the company.”
Her primary goal for the Shott Scale Up Accelerator support is to evolve from a founder to a proficient CEO. This transformation involves acquiring advanced managerial skills, honing strategic thinking capabilities, and mastering the art of leading a high-growth technology enterprise. She recognises that the one-on-one leadership coaching and mentoring will be critical component for her development.
Dr Tomberg is aware that ExpressionEdits’ scale up will involve “unknown unknowns - things that I don't even know that I should be thinking about in this role”. The Shott Scale Up Accelerator will provide opportunities to engage with seasoned industry professionals who have successfully navigated the journey from founders to influential CEO to support Kärt’s to meet an daddress these challenges.
