The problem of the slow transition to zero emission technologies is a key challenge for transport and power systems. In these industrial sectors, where asset life can be 30 years or more, an engine bought today will still be active in 2050, when we are aiming for net zero carbon. Hypermotive’s range of products, including their new marine fuel cell power system, will significantly reduce the level of expertise, time, and cost required to get fuel cell-powered applications onto market. They will also help to create a favourable market for these products, particularly in industrial sectors.
Jonathan Brown is Hypermotive’s Strategy Director responsible for creating, planning, and supporting delivery of the strategy for optimal growth of the business. His remit includes holding other members of the Executive to account, including the CEO, and reflecting on organisational gaps, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities.
Jonathan is particularly looking to increase his knowledge about corporate finance and accounting and understand how to develop and structure businesses to achieve ambitions and deliver strategic goals.
He recognises that, “some of these can be gained through standard and structured training, particularly those around corporate finance and accounting. However, other, perhaps softer skill areas may be better developed through ongoing mentoring and coaching programmes.” He sees that the Scott Scale-Up Accelerator as helping with, “growing and stretching the Exec team across the business in a number of different directions.”
As Hypermotive approach Series B funding round over the next 12 months they are reaching a critical time for the next stages of the business, in terms of external investment, internal strategy, Exec harmony, and unity, where there is a growing diversity of viewpoints, ambitions, and expectations. Jonathan is aware he needs to develop his perceived weaknesses in some areas, “to have the strength to keep all on track and committed to a shared vision.” This keeping everyone with a (mostly) singular focus and ambition is really the key objective for the business over the next 12 months.
