Hydrogen is seen as a key solution to help decarbonise electricity in areas such as industrial processes, mobility, and heating. Adopting clean hydrogen is a challenge because of the difficulty of storing hydrogen safely and at low cost.
H2GO store hydrogen chemically and can achieve the same energy density as a 700–800 bar compressed hydrogen cylinder, but at only 10 bar: less pressure than your coffee machine at home needs. By storing hydrogen like this the customer can benefit from high energy densities, increased safety, increased efficiency, and ultimately lower costs.
Peter Italiano is the Managing Director – Product, responsible for the solid-state hydrogen storage development team and sits on the management team of the company. Having been at H2GO for over 5 years he describes it as, “a fast pace learning environment” and “an apprentice MBA”. He recognises that the Shott Start Up Accelerator gives him focused time on his own personal development and that it: “will allow me to step back and reflect, with the tools around me, to be able to make an impact on areas that I need to address, to be able to support in the areas that company needs me to as we transition out of building a technology to scaling a product.”
In the next 12 months H2GO needs to focus on raising further investment and delivering on the complex and ambitious projects they are leading. This includes the deployment of multiple MWh hydrogen storage systems and live optimisation of hydrogen sites.
These developments will enable them to offer products to the market and significantly build upon the small amounts of commercial revenues generated so far. This will be supplemented by a fundraising round that will open a new chapter in the company and unlock many of the constraints on them.
